Middle Hall Farm Veg
This month we chat to Sue from Middle Hall Farm Veg near Stroud in Gloucestershire about their new farm shop and veg delivery service.
Please could you tell us a little about how long the shop’s been running and how it first started off?
Our Dairy Herd is in the process of “going organic†so Nick and I decided we would follow our dream to grow and sell vegetables and deliver them locally, reminding people of the seasonality of vegetables and fruit, and the freshness of buying produce picked that day. Our little farmshop opened on July 20th last year amidst all the floods, and our box numbers increase each week.
What would you say is your most popular product at the moment?
Our customers love to buy anything that we have grown, we are astounded how quickly the word has spread about us so at the moment we are also sourcing from a grower in Chipping Camden keeping food miles to a minimum.
What sort of distances do your products travel to reach your shop?
Nick makes a trip to Chipping Camden once a week to top up our shelves to meet our box and shop requirements; we source apples from a fruit farm in Newent, also in Gloucestershire and the eggs are from two sources, both within ten miles of the farm.
Do you plan to sell any new products?
We are continually listening to our customer’s requests and have a huge variety of vegetables growing and being prepared to grow.
What would you say to somebody who usually shops at a supermarket, and hasn’t tried some of your produce?
We have many “converts†who try to buy from us every week and these people say how much more tasty our vegetables are and how much longer they keep at home.
